About Us!

Hi, I’m Kim — welcome to Building SEND Castles.

Imagine a place where every child, no matter their

unique journey or the obstacles they have faced,

feels understood, valued, and empowered to reach

for the stars. That is the heart and soul of Building

SEND Castles. We are a registered Alternative Provision located in Ipswich, Suffolk, supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families. For 25 years, I have had the immense privilege of working alongside incredible children with SEMH, Autism, PDA, ADD, ADHD, ESBA (emotionally based school avoidance), and a wide range of additional needs. My passion has only grown stronger.

I firmly believe that children must always come first — no matter their difficulties, behaviours, diagnoses, or past experiences. With the right support, understanding, flexibility, and belief in their potential, every child can thrive.

Behaviour is communication. Anxiety is not defiance. Every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and capable of success.

At Building SEND Castles, we believe every child has the potential to build their own magnificent “castle” of confidence, resilience, and achievement.

Our role is to provide the foundations — through therapeutic, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity affirming practice so that each child can grow in their own way and in their own time.

We are so glad you are here, and we look forward to exploring how we can support your child’s unique journey.

We’re now officially listed in the Suffolk County Council Unregistered Alternative Provision Directory

Building SEND Castles is proud to announce that we have been included in the Suffolk County Council Unregistered Alternative Provision Directory.

This recognition means that:

  • Suffolk County Council may refer young people directly to Building SEND Castles to access our support and services.

  • Schools can be confident that we have met the required standards and completed all necessary checks.

The term “unregistered” Alternative Provision simply means that we are not a registered school, and therefore do not need to register with the Department for Education. This status is completely appropriate for the type of support and provision we offer.
